Be More Funny!
Maybe it’s just me, or maybe it’s just the drugs taking over, but at some point during a comedy podcast shouldn’t there be comedy? Just a thought. I always figured that a comedy podcast should make someone laugh no?
Along with this new fangled technology called podcasting come all sorts of people who think they could be the next Opie and Anthony or the next Howard Stern. Hell even our podcast has been called the podcasting answer to Howard Stern. But we are funnier than Howard and a lot better looking.
I’ve listened to what I guess should be considered competition in the “humor” podcasting categories and frankly I will not ever need to take another sleeping pill if certain people keep podcasting. Oofa.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of great funny podcasts out there. Look at The Dawn and Drew Show for example. They had this ruse going last week where they made people think they had sex on their podcast to boost ratings. But did they? They come out a few days later and say they didn’t. Hmmmm I wonder. If they did, my condolences go out to Dawn (listen and you’ll know why). If it’s not true they got you listening anyway and had fun doing so. And that’s what I think makes a good show, the people doing it have the most fun and it translates to the listener. They were laughing the whole time and just goofing off. God bless goofing off.
Then there are those “humor/comedy” podcast where someone is off doing a 15 minute imitation of someone you’ve no clue who they are imiating or what they are talking about, and no one, not even themselves is laughing. ZZZZZZZZ.
I’ve often held the knife very close to my wrist during these shows, hoping to see a light at the end of the tunnel only to not find one. But no fear of me actually using the knife on my wrists. Jordan here at Podfly has some compromising pictures of me that can’t get out. So I have to write every week.
I guess what I am trying to say is, if you’re not funny in real life, you won’t be funny on a podcast. Don’t try to force the funny either, just let it happen. Go with the flow if you must. Your listeners will appreciate the unforced humor a lot more than if they are listening to something they feel is manufactured. If a bit screws up, so what! Go with it.Otherwise bow out gracefully now while podcasting is still in it’s infancy.
On a side note we at Bibb+Yaz Take Over the World! will be topping the sex show that Dawn and Drew had. No Yaz and I will not be having sex with each other. He’s too hairy and a guy, so he’s not my type. I think we will kill a puppy or a kitten every minute or so during the show. . .or will we???
