Podcast Review: TWIT

leoThe acronym stands for This Week in Tech, you may think from this that the show covers all things technological, whilst this maybe true, this podcast manages to rise above its topic matter and provide us with an entertaining and informative show as its permanent top ten place in iTunes and winner of “Best Technology Podcast” and “People’s Choice.” at the Podcast Awards proves.

This success is largely down to its presenter Leo Laporte, a man with an engaging tone who readily admits he loves to talk, injects a passion into the proceedings and forgoes the monotone dialogue normally associated with such topics. Joining him on a regular basis are co-presenters Patrick Norton, John C. Dvorak, Robert Heron, Kevin Rose, Roger Chang, and David Prager, a collection of journalist and dot com business owners who together give a feel of the ‘good old boys’ sitting around the fire chewing the fat, and so they do, as their insight and wisdom into the web and its technology can reveal much that would otherwise never be heard in traditional mediums.

Its this knowledge and relaxed approach that provides TWiT’s appeal as they explore stories of the week concerning, websites, media, p2p community, IPtv , unravelling new technology and gossip style news, also hearsay and goings on in big corporate company’s such as Microsoft and Apple feature, providing insight into the inner workings of these multinationals and very entertaining it can be too.

The casual observer of the web may find themselves overwhelmed by the various terms used with abandon, but if you want to keep up with latest or have an interest to learn more, then this show is a must. Even if you’re not a tech geek, you may find TWiT’s presenters down to earth and forthright approach entertaining enough for you to want to subscribe.

A must for technology buffs and a must try for the rest of us.
