Welcome to the Edge
Hello, I’m Gary Bibb and you are not.
Sure that’s an old line from an old show, but I thought I’d borrow it because it fit.
I run a site aptly titled Bibb’s Revenege and also have a podcast with my co-host Yaz called, again aptly titled, Bibb and Yaz Take over the World! Now that all my site and podcast plugging is done I can get onto the reason why I am here.
Welcome to my weekly column, The Podcasting Edge. I’d like to thank Jordan for giving me the chance to write this column, hopefully he won’t regret it. I also hope he doesn’t mind a bad speller because there are times I can be the best of the worst spellers. Maybe I should hire an editor to just to be safe.
So what will The Podcasting Edge be about? I’ve really no clue. I’m not that much of a techno-geek to actually talk about the workings of feeds and other such things. I’m not a professional broadcaster so I can’t really comment on how podcasting is or isn’t similar to radio. I can tell you however, the proper way to shingle a house because I am a contractor.
Basically, I’m just a regular schmoe who enjoys podcasting. Period.
I know many people have listened to our podcast and enjoyed it. I know many have listened and have written us death threats. Believe me I feel the same way about many a podcast out there. I’ve heard some podcasts that I think the podcaster should have duct tape placed over their mouths. They should be then thrown in a closet never to be let near recording equipment again.
Then there are other podcasts out there that when you listen, you totally forget that they may not even be professional broadcasters. They are that good.
One thing you will notice if you are new to podcasting is that there are regular podcasters then there are the “elite” podcasters. You’ll soon find out who they are. They are the ones that if you are lucky enough to get listed or mentioned on their site, you’re in the cool gang now.
When I first started podcasting I would send emails to all sorts of podcasts or podcasting related sites to see if they would want to possibly trade links. Even if I didn’t like what they had to say or what they podcasted, I wanted to gain exposure and help others gain exposure to further podcasting. What I found was that those who weren’t the so called “elite” podcasters were more willing to trade then those who were.
I know you’re probably saying,”oh Gary Bibb you are just calling sour grapes because they wouldn’t list you”. Maybe I am, maybe I’m not. But if you are one of the elite don’t sit on your high horse and claim you want to help the podcasting world and all the podcasters out there, but you won’t trade a little ole link. It’s not like we are asking you for your first born, it’s a fecking link. I wouldn’t want your first born anyway because it’s probably hella ugly and will get picked on a lot at school.
So to summarize, I’ve no clue where this column will go, elite podcasters stink, I eat way too much Taco Bell. Starting with the next column I may link to one or two podcasts that I think deserve the attention they are not getting. Also maybe a podcasting site review thrown in every now and then. I’m sure Yaz will write once in a while also. That is if he can get away from the whole stone tablet writing system his caveman looking ass is used to. So until next time. . .
